  • The Incheon International Airport since 2005 has been recognized by the Airports Council International as the best airport worldwide as well as the world’s cleanest and best international transit airport by the United Kingdom-based consultancy (originally Inflight Research Services) Skytrax.
  • The Incheon International Airport features a casino, golf course, indoor gardens, an ice skating rink, private sleeping rooms, a spa and a Museum of Korean Culture located in Concourse 4F which houses artifacts and art of cultural significance to Korea.
  • Airport authorities have reported that the average arrival and departure times for a passenger traveling by way of the Incheon International Airport is significantly lower than the rest of the world’s airports times with arrival and departure times of only 12 and 19 minutes respectively making it one of the world’s fastest airports for customs processing and a baggage mishandling rate of less than 1%.
  • In a 2013 edition of Business Traveller the Incheon International duty-free shopping mall has been rated as providing the world’s best duty-free shopping experience three years in a row.
  • The primary hub for Asiana Airlines, Jeju Air, Korean Air and Polar Air Cargo (the American cargo airline operating cargo service to North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East), the Incheon International Airport also the serves as a major hub for all international civilian air transportation and cargo traffic throughout East Asia.
  • In 2014 the Incheon International Airport was ranked as the eighth busiest airport in passenger traffic (handling more over 40 million international passengers) and fourth in terms of cargo traffic.
  • The airport was consecutively ranked as the World’s Best Airport by the Airports Council International and receiving the Airport Service Quality Award in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
  • The Incheon International Airport was first opened in 2001 as a replacement to South Korea’s former main international airport Gimpo International Airport located in the far western end of Seoul. Today the Gimpo International Airport primarily serves domestic destinations and shuttle flights to other airports in China, Japan and Taiwan.
  • The airport is connected to South Korea’s mainland by way of the Incheon International Airport Expressway commonly referred to as Expressway 130 which also connects to the Gimpo International Airport to connect passengers between domestic and international flights. Since 2009 the Incheon Bridge serves as a secondary route to the southern region of Incheon city which is considered as much easier than traveling from the southern Korea to Incheon and then to worldwide airports.
  • The airport is mostly served by a bus service which serves most of South Korea as well as a ferry service which runs between Yeongjong pier and Incheon. There are a number of limousines which operate 24/7 from Seoul to Incheon in addition to several highway bus services used to commute people to and from Seoul.
  • Incheon International Airport terminal measuring a total of over 590.000 square meters is 3,480 ft long, 489 ft wide and 108 ft high. The terminal which is also the largest terminal in South Korea has 120 arrival and departure passport inspection counters, 8 security ports for arriving passengers, 28 security ports for departures, 50 customs inspection ports and 44 boarding ports capable of handling the new Airbus A380.
  • In 2008 the airport completed a passenger concourse consisting of 30 gates and six lounges. The concourse which is primarily used by foreign airlines and is connected to the Main Terminal by way of an underground passageway 2,850 ft long and equipped with Intra Airport Transit.
  • Serving over 90 airlines, the Incheon International Airport operates three parallel runways. Runways 15R/33L, and 15/33R both 12,300 feet long, 200 ft wide and 3 ft 5 in thick. Runway 15R/33L is primarily used for takeoffs while runway 15/33R is used for landings. The third runway 16/34, 4,000 long is used alongside runway 15R/33L for takeoffs and landings for most passenger flights while runway 15R/33R which is much closer to the airport’s cargo terminals used mainly for cargo flights.
